Art Director Photography

We are looking for an Art Director Photography to innovate and evolve our in-app product presentation in general,  and product photography in particular. 

Across Picnic, we are currently in full throttle taking our visual identity and assortment presentation to the next level. Leveraging our online position, we continuously rethink how we can best present our assortment and product experiences. We are looking for a director that can’t wait to play an impactful role in this brand evolution. A true opportunity to shape the face of online grocery shopping and impact hundreds of thousands of Picnic customers every day across multiple countries!

Since the start of Picnic, the importance of consistent high-quality product photography was clear to us. That is why we have always shot all our own pack shots ourselves - eliminating any dependencies on our suppliers and creating the best customer experience. Now that we have a solid operational system in place enabling us to shoot thousands of packshots - we want to raise the bar to unprecedented levels. 

You will be part of the Presentations and Photography team. Working together with our in-house photographers and editors, your relentless drive for top quality will be satisfied every day.  Working alongside business owners, data analysts, and developers, you will create new strategies and guidelines. You are open to present & discuss your approach with great enthusiasm, while always keeping an open mind. Strong opinions, weakly held!

You will have the opportunity to learn from great designers and work on all in-app visuals that are part of a supermarket disruptor - including the possibility to data-driven test what works best for our customers through A/B- and user testing. You will join a growing team of content creators and your work will make a big contribution to the next chapter of the Picnic.

What you do

  • Develop a shared vision on how to best present our assortment in digital context across different countries
  • Keep up-to-date with general trends and developments across the domain of commercial photography and specifically within the scope of e-commerce
  • Evolve our specific packshot strategy to boosts the attractiveness of products presented in our app while ensuring scalability in operation
  • Collaborate with content creators to deliver creative briefs for mood shot photography that will support assortment related content themes
  • Guide, coach, and inspire in-house and external photographers and editors
  • Test and validate new ideas either through user testing or A/B testing in app
  • Collaborate with business leads to oversee general quality, analyse performance and adjust strategy where needed
  • Build an accessible library for both packshots as well as general mood shots so that assets can be used throughout the organization

What you need

  • Bachelor degree in relevant field and 3+ years of experience 
  • Passion for photography and a solid portfolio
  • Excellent communication skills with the energy to inspire and ability to clearly present options and decisions
  • Self-starter with a “roll up your sleeves” attitude, equally comfortable to lead and to follow 
  • Attention for detail, ability to notice the small but important things
  • An innate high-quality standard and dedication to continuously iterate and improve in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluency in English, eligible to work in the Netherlands
